What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a long-acting analogue of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). A fatty-acid side chain lets it bind albumin, which greatly extends its half-life compared with native GLP-1.
In the laboratory it is used as a reference GLP-1 receptor agonist for studying incretin signalling, receptor pharmacology and comparisons with newer dual- and triple-agonist peptides.
